Fishing Skirts
Why do fish strike the bottom part or a spinnerbait instead of the blade?
I know that the blade represents a wounded bait fish swimming erratically but why do fish strike the skirted hook instead, it seems like they would bite the ” bait fish ” ( blade )?
if there were hooks on the blades you would find they do hit the blades it’s just that their mouths are so large they take the whole thing in it’s just only the hook can catch them so they do! if the fish are short striking (missing the hook) they are moving slower than you are retrieving the baits (usually caused by colder water)you can do two things: add a stinger hook and keep the same speed or slow the retrieve. So, if they are chasing a certain speed but just missing add the extra hook and keep the speed the same. changing the speed might make them stop chasing all together.
